Grigor Dimitrov in the year 2020
It has not been the year so far which Dimitrov would have expected. The Bulgarian player has got the desired start in many tournaments but was not able to perform in the big matches. It would not be wrong to say that he choked, maybe because of pressure, in the knock-out stages.
After getting eliminated from the Australian Open 2020 in the second round, he played well at the ATP Rotterdam managing to reach the pre-quarters. He defeated the 3-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka in the Mexican Open 2020 but lost to Rafa in the semis.
After tennis resumed, he did not have a great start as he could not proceed beyond the second round at the US Open 2020. At the Italian Open, the 29-year-old managed to reach the quarters but lost to Denis Shapovalov there. In the French Open 2020, he was playing well before facing Stefanos Tsitsipas in the fourth round. The Greek player defeated him in straight sets and denied him a spot in the quarters.
In the recently concluded Vienna Open 2020, he avenged his defeat against Tsistsipas by defeating him despite losing the first set. However, he lost to Dan Evans in a close contest and could not go beyond the quarters.
It has been the same story for Dimitrov. He managed to reach the quarters and semis and then failed to keep his calm. Fans certainly expect more from him. They hope that he would be able to play more tournaments before the 2020 season ends.
